Boyndie Wind Farm’s Community Fund was set up in 2020 and the Board decided to use the funds for environmental and education purposes.

Boyndie Windfarm Co-operative School Grants 2023/24
Again in 2023/24 we have been able to work with Aberdeenshire Council’s Banff Schools Cluster to facilitate and encourage young people to learn and develop outdoors, appreciate their environment and know more about their food and nutrition. Here, they report their activities and outcomes, in their own style and words.

Banff Academy – ‘Grow’ project underway.
All the schools in the Banff School Cluster benefited from grants during session 2022-23 to support the development of projects and improvements linked to the Sustainable Development Goals. Click here to view the schools’ presentation to see which projects the grant funded.
2022
The main benefactor in 2022 was Turriff Academy’s “Sustainability Group”. They are creating “Green spaces” around the school which has limited outdoor space. Our grant helped them to purchase tiered planters and plants which will in the long term benefit the school. These will be looked after by the pupils who have given their project a lot of thought, putting together a planting plan which should enable the school to enjoy colourful blooms almost all year round.
The other school to receive a grant from us is Banff Academy. Several pupils came to visit the wind farm with representatives from Falck Renewables including their Operations Manager. The students asked lots of interesting questions such as why the site was chosen, what the production was like, and what happens to the turbines at the end of their useful life. They have got a project within the school looking at how they can develop Renewable Energy Power for the greater good moving forward and they have been tasked with designing a Renewable Energy Power station. In the end they opted for Tidal rather than wind! However, they are looking to set the “business” up as a Co-operative so it was a very worthwhile visit for them.
We also reached out to Primary schools initially in the Banff area, and offering support with environmental projects.
The Board appreciate Members’ generosity in approving donation of these funds to local children’s education, and we look forward to reporting back to you at our AGM each year.
2021
In 2021 we reached out to ten academies within the catchment area of the wind farm (30km). Two of these schools expressed an interest in getting support from us.
